A Good Read

bookYou are a Badass How To Stop doubting Your Greatness And Start Living An Awesome Life Jen Sincero

I was chatting with a friend this morning and he shared some amazing news he received today. He received a new job offer!  I am genuinely so happy for him. He deserves it. He mentioned to me how he just knew that during the interview that they were impressed listening to him. He also mentioned that it isn’t often that he thinks or says that about himself but that perhaps maybe he should more often.

I have not had a chance to tell him yet but I wanted to recommend this book to him because it talks about exactly that. It turns out that I had this blog post in my drafts so I’ve decided to now post this blog. I highly recommend it to everyone as I’ve gifted so many copies.

In my never-ending quest to improve myself I crossed paths with a book while shopping in Target last night. I had bookmarked the item on Amazon so when it appeared in front of me, my inner voice was screaming at me to throw it in the cart along with the other must-haves already in there like; navy blue patterned tights, cinnamon coated pecans and Ziplock bags.

With summer solstice in the rearview mirror there never seems to be enough time to do everything I want to do so I didn’t get a chance to read the entire book last night but so far SO GOOD! Much of what the author recommends I’ve read elsewhere but the difference is that this book seems to paint it in a way that seems more relatable. I read a couple of pages out loud to some colleagues because I was excited to share the information.book2

The author throws in quotes from various pop culture figures every now and then and ties them to the lesson to be learned.”Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.”~Kurt Cobain

Chapter 4 titled The Big Snooze refers to the ego within each of us. The ego has nothing to do with being conceited or braggy but rather it’s the shadow self. The ego we learn is reactive and fear-based and will do everything to keep you confined within the reality we’ve created for ourselves solely based on limiting false beliefs. Our circumstances do not control our lives and we are not victims. We should not look for approval or acceptance from others because deep down we always know what is best for us.

Watching someone else totally go for it can be incredibly upsetting to the person who’s spent a lifetime building a solid case for why themselves can’t.

When taking great leaps forward, life often turns to shit before it turns to Shinola.

The Big Snooze will do everything it can to stop you from changing and growing, especially since you’re attempting to obliterate the very identity that you and everyone else has come to know as “you”.

This is a great pocketbook to carry to remind ourselves of how incredible we are.

    1. Yay! That makes me happy! You will enjoy it, I hope but like the author says “If you try getting through this book and decide it’s a bunch of crap, you can go back to your sucky life. But maybe, if you put your disbelief aside, roll up your sleeves, take some risks, and totally go for it, you’ll wake up one day and realize you’re living the kind of life you used to be jealous of”.
